No, It’S Open To The Air. Mine Noticeably Transfers More Water Into The Soil Than Is Lost To Evaporation.But They Are A Fragile Glass. I Would Suggest Putting Them On The Back Side So Once In Place You Can Just Fill Them. They Do Have Rather Large Release Tubes But I Like The Look Of Them.

We Haven'T Received These As Of Yet. We Do Have Other One And They Work Fine. You Should Make A Small Hole In The Earth Before Placing Them In The Ground So The Globe Does Not Fill Out With Soil
